PATENTS OF MEDICAL-SURGICAL DEVICES IN SPAIN: WHAT, WHERE AND WHO INVENT AND PROTECT THEIR INVENTIONS?

Abstract INTRODUCTION Among the strategic lines of EECTI document (Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2021-2027) related with health, there is a subline that refers to: New diagnostic therapeutic techniques. The objective to analyze patents medical-surgical devices in field Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Spain. MATERIAL AND METHODS Data surgical MIS Laparoscopic are collected between January 2019 December 2020 using information from Boletín de Vigilancia Tecnológica, documents obtained collaboration OEPM ITEMAS. They extracted analyzed patent application documents: owner, number inventors by sex, Autonomous Community, type device health specialties where they involved. RESULTS In last two years, 16 have been published. 7 cases (43.75%) owner an individual, 6 company (37.5%) 3 institution (18.75%). 34 only (17.65%) them women. Most laparoscopic surgery such as General Digestive Surgery, Gynecology or Urology, instruments mostly Traumatology Orthopedic Surgery. CONCLUSIONS recent years still few Spain minimally invasive surgery. private ownership, almost all male inventors, regions southeast involving work large cavities.
